Design for Devices

New Device needs new design

“In terms of a tool for designers to use, the iPad is clearly for consumption so doesn’t have much place in the creative process. However I can see it becoming a popular way for designers to demo their work to clients over coffee or in a pitch. I know that’s how I’m planning to use it.
The interesting thing for me is the way the iPad closes the gap between the mobile and traditional web. Until recently, the majority of web designers hadn’t really explored the possibilities of the mobile web. The iPhone helped break down the traditional barriers associated with mobile web development and created a generation of iPhone developers. However the web was still a constrained and fiddly experience. The iPad has the potential to change all that.

Can't beat the physical world

Social media can be used to maintain communication but it does not create as strong a link than when people also meet in person

I know there's an apparent irony here - that all of this social media stuff is virtual and location is less important than before.  That may be true at a surface level, but the digital world has never and will never replace the physical world...except in Hollywood stories.  DMs, hashtag chats, threaded conversations are all useful and can help us initiate and maintain relationships.

MURDER IN ONE SHOT!

Here's another single-shot short film, this time made by students in bath (not 'in a bath'). It's a complete narrative in three minutes and clear and simple in design and execution. They enjoy telling this story, the flow of it is matched by the flow of the camera...

We will have a look at these short films when I begin the one shot project with you all!
